August Mini-Market PLUS
On the 1st of August we are very pleased to be able to announce that the Community Hall mini-market will be returning, though due to the current coronavirus outbreak it will be a slightly smaller affair hosted in the hall car park from 10am – 2pm and with social distancing in place. We do hope you will come and join us as we return to some sort of normality.
Of course the 1st of August would also have been the date for the Silverton Street Market, which has unfortunately had to be cancelled. We would not normally hold a mini-market on Street Market Day, however, the Community Hall committee and the Street Market committee have been discussing options to ‘Mark the Day’, and we thought that Mini-Market PLUS would be an ideal opportunity to encourage others in the village to take part in their own mini-market as well. We can’t invite others here and host a big Street Market, but villagers can create personal stalls on their doorstep and we can, as a community, host a village wide Mini-Market PLUS instead! Socially distanced, and with the correct hygiene in place, there’s no reason we can’t try and create a fun day in the village despite the circumstances.
Many have already been offering things outside their houses for sale, or for free, so think of it as an extension of that. Why not get involved by baking some cakes, making some bread, offering some bric-a-brac, home-made textiles or pottery – the list could be endless! If you do plan to set-up a little stall please ensure you use hand sanitiser and we recommend honesty boxes and simple pricing to reduce contact.
We will also have some live background music from Tricky Situation outside the hall to help brighten up the day. Please respect social distancing if you pause to listen to it and move on to let others listen to avoid a crowd
Street Market Day would usually be about raising funds for local groups or charities, this can’t be done this year, but perhaps some of you might want to donate part of what you make to a charity or group of your choice, do let us know if we you want to do that. We hope that you will be able to have your stall outside from 10am– 2pm and please let us know at silverton.hall@outlook.com if you are doing this so that we can put a map together showing where all the stalls are. This map will then be available for free at the main mini-market and also online.
Let’s make sure the 1st of August doesn’t slip by unnoticed. Decorate your doorstep, handout the hand sanitiser, and sell for Silverton!
